THURSDAY 23RD JANUARY
THE PUTBACKS 9PM-11:30PM (2 X SETS)
The PutBacks have performed as part of PBS 106.7 fm Live Music Week (2008/9), at Melbourne’s premier funk night ‘Soul-A-Go-Go’ and have opened for Australian premier funk outfit The Bamboos, ‘The Menahan Street Band featuring Charles Bradley’ during their Australian tour in 2009, and have just recently opened for Booker T Jones in Sydney and Melbourne.
The PutBacks instrumental funk-killer-floor-filler ‘The Diamond Cutter’, released March 2009 as a split 7” 45 on Hope Street Recordings, has received healthy rotation on Australian, US and UK radio, featured on Canadian DJ Double K’s “The New Funk Mix” available at www.parkdalefunk.com and profiled on DJ Prestige’s blog page .
The PutBacks strengths are a deep funky groove with a raw, melodic sound.
"The PutBacks lay down a groove exactly how I want to hear it: With super-heavy authentic tones, attitude and feel…" - Lance Ferguson (The Bamboos/Lanu)
”Diamond Cutter is fresh — it’s cheesy enough to make white people dance but it’s not cheesy at all… it’s got the same kinda swinging feel as Tighten Up or Razor Blade, but still grooves hard like a JB/Pee Wee Ellis 45. Party starter! CAUTION: May induce white man’s overbite!” (R)
Rex (Northside Records)
"If the JB’s had their own monorail, the Putbacks have a steam train that runs right from Australia directly to every record player in the world" – DJ Prestige
