THE BAND WHO KNEW TOO MUCH
SUNDAY 6TH JULY
MATINEE RESIDENCY
2 X SETS FROM 4:30PM
Woodchop Jazz veterans The Band Who Knew Too Much celebrate the Important things:
Beer, Spending the Rent, Whales, Suburban lunch-cutting and Singapore Jos.
For over two decades they have branded their sound around the world; a highly energetic act that is at home singing on the festival stage, busking unplugged on the city streets, or anything in-between!
Sun Arvos in July will see The Band unleash at the rare and reclusive, oft neglected lesser Spotted Mallard in Brunswick. Reidy's been busy in the off season doing arm-lifts and elbow bends in preparation for a long month.
The Band Who Knew Too Much...the beast no Rider could survive. It's a walk in, crawl out, lay down Bernie Mizair.

After 25 years as the honey-voiced singer of the Blackeyed Susans, Rob Snarski is set to release his debut solo album, “Wounded Bird” at The Spotted Mallard on Saturday, 26th July.
Produced by Rob and longtime bandmate and collaborator Dan Luscombe with Shane O’Mara, “Wounded Bird” foregoes the lush arrangements of The Blackeyed Susans for a stripped-back and intimate sound palette. Think Ricky Nelson meets Mazzy Star or the Everly Brothers if they’d been raised on a diet of Big Star’s Third.
Featuring a coterie of musicians including Luscombe and O’Mara, JP Shilo and Phil Kakulas from The Blackeyed Susans, Clare Moore (vibes), Bruce Haymes (keyboards), Ashley Davies (drums) and ‘some guy called Ralph’ from Machine Translations, the result is a beautifully sparse album, which finds joy in the spaces in between.
One of the most profound musical experiences of Rob’s youth was hearing the golden hits radio station wafting over the valley of his family’s rural property on the outskirts of Perth in Karragullen. Working on the family orchard he was captured by the crooners, Roy and Elvis, coming down from on high, their voices carried and twisted by the valley winds.
Themes of love rejected or betrayed play out across the album. The characters wounded by the madness of everyday life: There’s ‘Henry Small’ - who sets sail on a sea of alcohol through the neon streets of a careless city; and ‘Johnny Only’ ¬ a man from ‘a different generation’ coming out ‘in a not-so-different world.’
Rob Snarski will launch Wounded Bird at The Spotted Mallard with special guests including J.P. Shilo and the Ladies Of The Shotgun Wedding.

ANDREW NOLTE & HIS ORCHESTRA
SUNDAY 17th AUGUST FROM 4:30PM (2 x sets)
FREE ENTRY
Performing since 2009, Andrew Nolte, his saxophone and his novelty dance orchestra have performed jazz festivals, jazz clubs, and live music venues to an astonishing amount of appreciation. The band, consisting of 8 highly trained musicians, features a cavalcade of roaring brass, wailing saxophones and a banjo, sousaphone, trap kit rhythm section that cannot be beat for authentic vintage style and taste. Playing from intricate original orchestrations from the Gatsby era, the band boasts an extensive repertoire to evoke any mood of the 1920s desired by any dancer, vintage lover, cocktail addicts etc. With its roots set deep in the post war era, when the wireless was king, the screen still silent, the bands influences can be found on any old shellac 78 disc from the period. Authenticity being a large focus of the group, enjoyment, amusement and a general great time are its greatest results as proven by the bands recent successes. Whether you are an afficianado or new to this crazy music, you will certainly find a new love for this often neglected period of popular music.
